The first thing...they don't want to have an environment like THG/MP, however, everything is going in the way to make it worse. Micro-managing CMO who can't let go and wants to be involved in EVERYTHING, this is not an exaggeration, whatever level, whatever it is, needs to go through CMO. There has started to become a blame culture. Long hours, little recognition.
Big pro is that the people are some of the best in their field, and that is true, but the negative to that is that most of them are being held back. They can't really "open up" due to the super reactive nature. One less than normal hour/day ruins the month, everything is stopped. Demoralising.
The culture could be great, but the pressure to work nights and weekends will never build a good culture. The WhatsApp groups....all of them...it is crazy the amount they have. There is no let up. Nights, weekends, annual leave, you name it there is always a question or analysis to do. C-level ask these, and expect a response no matter what time. I can't stress enough how many WhatsApp groups people are in.
The feeling of exhaustion, being drained and "beat up" is common. Very little recognition throughout all the teams.
Blame culture is massive - it's never their fault. But if you do put your hands up and admit it was, they don't forget, it is always brought up when things going well to, what I would say is to "not get above your station".
It's common to have work which is directly related to you to be discussed elsewhere, and new actions undertaken.
Work/life balance is non-existent.
