Pros

Great place to begin or end your career. There are lots of learning opportunities at a more relaxed pace, much more manageable than commercial or industrial. The 9/80 work schedule provides excellent opportunities to make the most of your vacation time. Good work-life balance. There are many smart people working there. It is highly advisable to learn as much as possible from the senior employees. Raytheon experience combined with a security clearance looks great on your resume. It is a great place to gain fundamental experience and then move out to move up. Or, it is a great place to come toward end-of-career and enjoy a steady work environment.

Cons

Process driven culture tends to hinder innovation. Following a checklist trumps engineering reason. Engineering judgement is largely stripped of designers. Internal recognition/promotion is severely lacking. Zero training budget. It's very common to hear -- 'it is what it is' when the above things are challenged.

Pros

I worked at Raytheon for over 4 years and had a great experience. The company provided many learning and growth opportunities. I was promoted twice during my tenure with the company, and my responsibility increased significantly. I felt like my management supported me and provided me with the career mentorship that I was seeking. I felt empowered and respected during my time there.

Cons

It can be difficult to work at such a large defense contractor company because of all the process and red tape. Things can move slowly, you have to be patient and pick your battles. That being said, if you learn how to work within the system, you can make a significant impact here!
