Pros
Some doctors and PAs are great and care about their patients/employees. Coworkers are amazing and supportive friends. Most patients are very appreciative of your time and help throughout the process of appointments/post op.
Cons
Some doctors/PAs have clinics that are impossibly busy to maintain, yet the pay for a clinical surgical assistant or clinical assistant with a PA is not reflected that way. You’re supposed to ask for help amongst your coworkers, management doesn’t always offer support and you’re expected to just deal with rooming patients/discharging patients/calls/voicemails/emails/faxes/whatever else the doctors might need. No bonuses. “Merit raises” reflect cost of living so no raises. Manager is hugely unprofessional and demands you be at work without excuse therefore PTO even for sick reasons is hard to use/questioned. When someone calls out you’re often asked to cover their clinic last minute and can be told to travel to satellite offices by an email or text same day.
