Pros
Amazing students and friendly, supportive co-workers. I felt supported by administration, but still had a lot of freedom and discretion when it came to managing my classroom and curriculum. The job is extremely rewarding. The best part are the students! Plenty of opportunities to get involved outside of the classroom and earn a little extra cash (sports, school dances, clubs, other extracurricular activities). Parents were largely very supportive, but often do not have the resources (time, education, money) to be actually helpful (i.e. cannot help their students with homework, cannot help improve their student's attendance because they work overnight/early morning shifts, etc)
Cons
Middle management (department heads) can be overbearing and/or unhelpful. Meetings and PLC are often a waste of time (although I know that recently administration was working to change this for the whole group faculty meetings). As with most teaching jobs, it can be very demanding. I put a TON of my spare time, personal money, emotional energy into this job.
