Pros
Pay and working conditions are very good. Lots of freedom to do your job. Public has a positive perception of Red Hat.
Cons
Unless you are a Director or above, you will be carrying out others' decisions - not making them. Not even having any meaningful input. Red Hat preaches against disengagement, while almost actively fostering it. Opinions are best kept to oneself. And, make no mistake, politics are very important at Red Hat. Also, the software is difficult to make work, due to inadequate user interfaces. And, support is spotty - despite this being Red Hat's main claim to fame. The training department continues to cling to the notion that memorizing for tests is a good thing, despite lots of research in the field of education that bears out what we all know - it is temporary. And, outsourcing the training department has made it almost irrelevant.
