Pros

A growing company that continually strives for excellence. Professional development plans are provided for all team members. Work with a diverse set of clients and industries. Fellow team members are incredible. Remote work is the norm for anyone outside of North Alabama. Team members in North Alabama are occasionally required in person for client meetings. Typically the schedule is very flexible to accommodate life outside of work.

Cons

Agencies are not a fit for everyone. The pace can be hectic. The expectation of excellence can result in very frank feedback. There are super busy periods where team members may have to occasionally work more than 40+ hours a week (this is offset by being able to take off those overage hours during a less busy season). As with any thriving organization, there can occasionally be growing pains.

Pros

Company owners and leadership are very accessible, take time to listen to employees, and take employee feedback seriously. Compensation and benefits are competitive, especially for a small business, and leadership makes a point to see that employees feel appreciated. Work is fast-paced and can be stressful, but employees are encouraged to maintain a healthy work-life balance with flexible work hours and management who does their best to accommodate time off. While company management expects employees to excel at their jobs, they provide time and resources for training and professional development. Work is interesting with a variety of client across many industries.

Cons

Agency work is fast-paced and can be hectic and a little stressful, some days. Time tracking, while necessary to ensure profitability, can be somewhat onerous.

Pros

Nice EOY bonus for your troubles.

Cons

Far too many to list, so I'll stick to the basics. 1. Take a look at employee turnover from 2018 to now. That alone should tell you quite a bit. 2. Take a look at who's been promoted over the last decade and who hasn't. If you look close enough, you'll see that one employee in particular has been promoted at least once a year since starting with the company, while others who've been with the company longer are still holding on to the same role/title they've had for years. Additionally, the individual who's been repeatedly promoted just happens to be best friends with the boss. 3. If you don't do your market research on adequate salary ranges for your role upon receiving an offer, they will without-a-doubt take advantage of your ignorance and offer you a "competitive" salary. 4. Your success within your role, and the company, is solely based on the opinion (and word) of two people - two people who keep an ongoing list of your occasional shortcomings (which seem to far outweigh your frequent successes), and report these to the company president as reasons you're not ready to be promoted. Doesn't matter if said shortcomings were a result of an oversight on your part or another someone else's. If you didn't catch it before those two did, you're going down for it. 5. Lastly, no matter how hard you try, you will never amount up to their most prized employee. The path to success at this company was essentially built on how this person succeeded in each of their roles since joining the company. If you don't meet or exceed the standard this person set within each role (from entry level to senior level), you might as well count your losses and move on because you'll never grow within the company.

Red Sage Communications Response

Hi there! Thank you for taking the time to offer this feedback. It is sincerely appreciated. Our company leadership is always interested in getting better and creating the most positive experience for our employees. We’d like to address some of your comments directly to offer a broader perspective. Red Sage is still a very small company but has doubled in size in the last two years. That growth has opened up new opportunities for advancement that previously could not be accommodated as easily. In the past, that was frustrating for some employees seeking rapid progress. It’s one reason management has worked so hard to triple the company’s growth over the last few years - to allow more room for advancement to retain our trusted team. When we consider promotions, we evaluate the employee’s performance record, their professional goals, and our company’s overall growth trajectory. Every team member is evaluated against objective performance benchmarks in their relevant specialization, never in comparison to peers, and never on the word of just one or two managers. Where promotion is not possible or appropriate yet, we routinely invest in other approaches (salary increases, bonuses, shifted responsibilities aligned with employee interests, and work-life flexibility) to show our team how much we value them. There’s no question we are serious about supporting a culture of accountability. It’s what our clients expect and deserve. That said, we also recognize we work in a dynamic, always-changing industry that can be mentally taxing and where mistakes will occasionally happen. We provide ongoing coaching and training to set our employees up for success. We routinely offer 80+ hours or more annually of company-paid development time to all employees to allow them to advance professionally (obtaining certifications or new skills, representing the company at speaking events, etc.) We want them to know we believe in them and are committed to continuing to help them grow. Regarding turnover, we are proud to say that our average turnover rate for the last five years is less than 15% (far lower than the industry average.) 40% of our employees have been with us for 5+ years. We recognize we are growing agency and leadership are not perfect, but rest assured, we are committed to being an amazing workplace!
