Pros
Great work-life balance. SCJ provides opportunities for telecommuting, personal development, and personal time off. SCJ even offers company paid time off between Christmas and New Year's Day. There are different internal divisions to rotate to within the company to gain additional exposure/experience. Also the salary and benefits are good.
Cons
If you have 15 yrs to waste waiting for your next promotion, and you don't mind seeing the carrot moved away constantly, then this is the place for you. The ceiling is quite high to be considered for even an entry level managerial positions. Promotions take extremely a long time regardless of your accomplishements, qualifications, and devotion. Management is handcuffed and not empowered to make decisions on promotions contrary to what you hear. It is disappointing that track record doesn't play a role. They're looking for perfection that doesn't exist. Sometimes personal favoritisms get in the way and deny you an otherwise great fit at an open position. I wonder if it doesn't make sense to leave and come back to break through the glass ceiling. It's like waiting to turn left at a very long traffic light. It is faster to turn right, do a U-turn, and head on your way.
