Pros

Sage has amazing people. Managers for the most part are reasonable and understand the challenges that exist within the organization. PTO and benefits are decent. Pay is applicable to other software companies. The company will allow for remote status and working from home when needed.

Cons

Right now Sage is in a period of transformation which can eventually be good news; however, during the transformation Sage has also placed unrealistic expectations on the middle managers who own the accountability without the "directorablity". If something goes wrong people resort immediately to the blame game. Hostility exists between various groups: R&D fights with Product Management, Sales fights with Marketing, Marketing fights with Product Marketing, and so on. This infighting is not only supported by leadership, but it’s usually leadership leading the charge. Escalations are prevalent, problems are swept under the rug, and morale continues to suffer. Communication is non-existent on topics that really matter to employees. Sage believes that because it has regular “Sage TV” sessions and other rah rah videos from the executive team that they are communicating. Unfortunately, the information shared is little more than an internal commercial and provides no real value to those day in and day out in the “trenches.” Decisions seem to be made in a vacuum by new VPs that are paraded through the organization—brought in to define strategy but have no understanding of the business and why that strategy, without proper execution, will fall flat. Meanwhile employees that have proven their knowledge and ability to succeed continue to leave because there is little opportunity to grow.

Thanks for your feedback. The one thing that strikes me about your review is about how important communication and engagement is. We know this and that's why there's plans to improve this - and some have actually started. I don't normally talk about my own personal experiences when respond to reviews, but for once, I will break this rule. Last week the NE Europe MD, Alan Laing visited our office. He invited colleagues to attend a 'fire side' chat, where he invited questions and he gave excellent and very honest feedback. He even said he could do a lot better when it came to colleague engagement and promised us that he would. The other item you refer to is an employee engagement survey. The global colleague survey launched 2 weeks ago has just closed and the results are being analysed as we speak. Thanks again for your feedback.

Pros

-Pay’s decent -Benefits are solid -The Sage Foundation feels like proper philanthropy -Some genuinely nice people -If you’re happy treating work as just a payslip and don’t mind things being a bit dull, Sage is actually quite a comfortable place to be. That stability is a real perk

Cons

-Far too many layers of middle management and general bureaucracy -The Ai push is getting a bit daft -Not especially innovative, so the work can feel quite uninspiring. I’m grateful to be employed, but if you’re after something more interesting, Sage will probably disappoint. That said, some people prefer it that way, fair enough -The office / hybrid requirements feel a bit pointless -Sage doesn’t tend to do layoffs, which is good, but it does mean there are quite a few people where you’re not entirely sure what they do. A lot of meetings, essentially. Even the positives come with trade-offs
