Pros

The organization has a good external reputation and long history, so at least it will look good on your resume

Cons

Organization is severely understaffed for the amount of work expected and suffers from a terrible turnover rate. Positions are left unfilled for months and sometimes years if not absorbed into existing staffs roles (great if you want two jobs for the pay of one). You can meet or exceed the expectations for your position but you will never get more than a 3% raise, though the next week you’ll hear the fundraising team brag about getting a million dollar donation. They’ve adopted a lot of social justice language in the past couple years and have a DEIA committee, but somehow still can’t manage to hire, promote, or retain people of diverse backgrounds.

Pros

Intimate working relationships, mentorship from Exec. Director, supportive emerging leaders, driving internal change, semi-fast pace, hybrid workplace.

Cons

Insular leadership team, the whole org tippy toes around overpaid and under-qualified CFO, literally. Numerous people have been in roles for more than a decade, or two... honestly, org is chained by a lack of generative discourse. Advancing internal work is really about managing the emotions and experiences of a few people who take more space than Elon Musk does on X.
