Scientific Atlanta is a very stable company, working in a very stable line of business. They have been around forever, people are really nice and overall you have to give it to management: they know their stuff.
Cons
Since the company is very stable there is little to no opportunity for change, people aren't the best technically (although there are a few rockstars). Inertia is a way of life (I'd never seen a technology company still do the 50 page paper forms to fill out when you start). This is probably a good place to hide in a down economy.
People at SA were not too happy about the Cisco acquisition because it meant they would have to change... which is probably a good thing.
