Pros
You get exposure to private equity and M&A. You’ll learn how buy-side and sell-side processes work, how deals are sourced, and some industry terminology.
Cons
Please think carefully before joining this company, especially if you’re a recent graduate trying to break into finance.
Based on my experience, I felt like the company relied heavily on college students and recent graduates because they were willing to work for very little compensation. It often felt like free labor.
Be aware that not everyone will necessarily be transparent with you. I felt that some people overpromised opportunities and compensation because they wanted you to stay as long as possible. Make sure you get everything in writing and ask detailed questions before joining.
The pay structure is extremely difficult to make work. During my time there, I was paid only $50 for each qualified meeting, and in one month I booked only three meetings, despite spending many hours researching companies, cold calling, and sending emails. Deals can take years to close, so there may be little or no income for a long time.
The company keeps the vast majority of the economics from successful transactions while junior team members take on most of the upfront work and risk. If you’re looking for stable income, mentorship, or a structured career path, this is probably not the place.
