Pros

Free fruit, cheap cinema tickets, part of the ride-to-work scheme, relaxed atmosphere. Good place to get your foot in the door of an industry (sales/technical support/graphic design/QA)

Cons

Management care little for the teams beneath them, information is not cascaded down to team members nor any decisions, with regards to those that would affect how a dept. works, are discussed with those teams. These changes to 'the job' are generally implemented before making the team aware of them. Advancement within the company is next to impossible and any promotions are normally done based on how long an individual has been with the company, rather than based on performance or ability. Your best bet is to learn what you can a move on. Salaries are well below industry average and you can expect to earn anywhere between 15-20% less than your industry counterparts.

Pros

There's free fruit delivered 2-3 times a week A good start if you're fresh out of university and are struggling to get a foot on the ladder

Cons

Serif is a software company and is owned by people who know very little about software. As a result they make terrible uniformed decisions. They look toward a team of equally uniformed managers for advice. They are a bureaucratic company with a steep hierarchy, making getting anything done a long and tedious process. The wages here are very low. Some of the managers have an apologetic attitude and do what they can. Since leaving I am earning more than 2x what Serif was paying me. The company is being directed largely by talentless individuals with no passion or real insight.
