Pros
There is a high degree of autonomy to perform your job as a field professional. It was necessary to keep your focus on customer problems and delivery. Servicing and providing a high level of personal service to clients and customers was its own reward.
Cons
It was apparent to me that the problems as a professional within this company were definitely inside the company. Any problem with customer service delivery was welcomed as it kept your focus on what was necessary and not on what was delusional inside the walls of the company. Management was always ineffective to lead and guide, but they were also unable to stay out of the way to allow seasoned people to provide technical service. In many cases the personnel had decades of experience on what they were doing. It seems apparent that this amount of time, in a given discipline, justified the competence level of the person executing the delivery. Management lacked knowledge and stuck to arbitrary beliefs on how to grow or even maintain this business. We all know that today's solutions are not effective using decade old methods.
