Pros

*ServiceScape's translation services site used to be called LanguageScape. That's when I first started working as a translator there, about six or seven years ago. The site appealed to me because it is mid-size among the different freelance sites. It's not too big that you get lost in the crowd, yet not too small that there is no money to be made. The company has been around for close to two decades, so I feel comfortable with their security and stability. I had a negative experience with a newer site that makes me more cautious about where I work. *Clients choose you so there are no complicated procedures to follow or bidding. The site is efficient for both professionals and clients. I message the clients with instructions on how to use the service if they need any assistance. They can hire me directly from my profile page by clicking on the Hire Me button and they don't need to wait for the site to find a translator who can handle their project. *Some translation services companies have minimums for transactions which can be frustrating for clients who want a less than one page/short document translated. There are no minimums here, so clients aren't deterred and I receive more business. Clients submit projects of all lengths, and the smaller ones do really add up. *Admins reply to my questions quickly by email or live chat which is key for time-sensitive projects or matters. Everything is taken care of by the site so translators don't have to worry about any administrative responsibilities. Overall, I'm pleased with the site and how much money I have earned over last 6-7 years.

Cons

There is more demand for certain languages than others so different translators' earnings will vary.

Pros

For approximately two years, I have been a freelance editor with ServiceScape.com. The website features freelancers who offer different services such as editing and writing. I am a professional book editor, and I was looking for a freelance option to supplement my income. ServiceScape is a convenient way to attract new clients. This is not easy to do on your own, even if you have your own website. The company takes care of all of the marketing and the associated costs and headaches. The only marketing freelancers have to do is to market themselves through their profiles. Since there is a good-size group of editors, you need to set yourself apart. It took me a month or two, but I found a good combination of self-description, portfolio, photo, and prices to start attracting a repeat client base. I am paid once a month by mailed check for the editing services I render the previous month. In the beginning of the year, I am mailed a 1099-MISC tax form which displays my earnings for the previous year. The website provides me with various campaign statistics so that I can track earnings, page views, projects submitted, etc. These help me to gauge how successful my profile is and if I need to make any modifications to my prices or description. The user interface is easy to use. There are many options to change your availability and account status to fit any changes in your schedule. The company has been around for more than a decade, and is trustworthy and reliable.

Cons

No cons really. Maybe even more areas of expertise sub-categories would help to even further narrow down search results.
