Great potential, but over-extended and poorly managed - Sales Associate Setting The Space Employee Review

Pros

Fun work environment, interesting merchandise, great learning opportunity. If the pay rate was better this would be a really great job and could feasibly turn into a rewarding career. Hours are ok.

Cons

Nearly impossible to achieve any commission, and base pay is minimum wage. No benefits whatsoever. Company is understaffed with a very high rate of turnover because they treat employees poorly and it's a much more demanding job than minimum wage would suggest. No formal training, you're expected to just dive in and figure it out. Which would be fine except that even if you do your job, you're still unlikely to make commission unless you have your own connections within the industry.

Pros

This company has such potential. Many beautiful things in the different locations. Chance to learn about the product and interesting local artists. I have met many people and made some good friends.

Cons

When I was first hired 2.5 years ago, I thought I had landed it. My dream job, no....my dream career. I gave my all to this company. Put it over friends, family, you name it I did it. Several times I asked the owner for a raise. I was always told, “if you want to make more, sell more.” I was started at 11$ an hour and I ended at 11$ an hour. There are no benefits, no incentive packages, no anything. I ended my employment when I found out that a new hire, with no previous design experience, had been hired at 15$ an hour and what hurt most about it was that she was told to “lie” to me about it if the issue of pay ever came up. I have some very colorful “choice” words for the owner, but I shall not type them here. Apply elsewhere and don’t waste your time here.
