I believe there are too many office based employees and therefore, there are loads of people walking around with very little to do. Managers keep hiring even though they know they don't need the additional resource just to protect their budgets. If you're someone who needs to be kept busy then I wouldn't recommend this as over time, it does affect your mental health.
The training for new starters is very very poor.
Career progression feels limited and vague. There's lots of sideways movement, not many people move up in seniority. The phrase 'it's not what you know, it's who you know' is very apt as people are often mapped to roles before jobs are even live on the job board.
If you work at head office in Coventry City Centre and drive to work; you are required to pay for parking which I believe is in excess of £800 per year. To add, there are not enough spaces for the numbers that work in this building. There are other car parks located across the City Centre however, you obviously still have to pay and also walk across to get to work. Coventry City Centre can be a very daunting place so this isn't a very nice task and could be quite scary for some. Particularly in the winter months when it's dark.
Sadly, while the company has always allowed flexible working on a limited basis (i.e you're allowed to work from home only when absolutely required) they haven't adopted a 'hybrid model' like many other employers off the back of the pandemic. Therefore, we all got summoned back in the office on a full time basis from mid July. This is really quite frustrating after having proven many of us are able to fulfill our roles remotely over the past 16+ months. Our CEO drives a 'social responsibility' message which of course is fabulous however, I would personally like to see a little more thought put into how colleagues feel about this sharp return to 'normal' to strike a better balance.
