Pros

Better pay than many other student job options and somewhat flexible scheduling if you're in college.

Cons

High turnover, somewhat boring work, seemed to not want employees who were adults or had children (I was fired due to my son having a medical emergency and needing follow-up care). They walk you out like a criminal and go through your desk without letting you get your things if terminated.

Pros

I’ve worked with Shapiro & Ingle for 15 years, and honestly, reading most of the negative reviews posted on this website do not accurately reflect the values and work environment of the Firm. I understand that everyone’s experience will be different, but in reading several of these reviews the bias one might have as a disgruntled former employee is fairly evident. There are multiple claims, boarding on libel, which are completely unverified. One person claims to have worked at the firm for 3 years, another over 5 years, all while hating every minute of it. Granted, this type of work may not be for everyone, but what kind of person stays at a job they despise for 3-5 years? The unemployment rate has been steadily decreasing for several years, so it’s not as if there aren’t other options available. It seems to me that a lot of people want the benefit of having a distinguished career with the perks of autonomy, increased pay, benefits, vacation days, trust/loyalty of their employer etc. without ever putting in the work that’s required to attain it. They expect to enter the workforce at the same level as someone who’s put in years of extra effort. If you’re just working a job, and not putting in the effort, you’re not allowed to lament about a situation you yourself have done nothing to improve. Then anonymously complain about a problem you helped create. The necessary tools to achieve upward mobility within the Firm are available to everyone. I’ve never felt limited in my pursuits to try something new, or achieve individual goals. You can’t put in the bare minimum, commiserate with others, contribute to a culture of negativity, and then expect to have an amazing work experience. This isn’t summer camp; grow up and gain some perspective because your current expectations are completely unrealistic. One such person talks about how everyone on their team complained all day long about the work. At what point is an employee personally responsible for the toxic environment they are actively creating? If all you did was sit around complaining, focusing on the negative, is it any wonder your experience was miserable? Do you think that employees who behave in such a manner should be rewarded with perks and pay increases? Are you so complexly removed from reality that you can’t see how much you’ve contributed to the negative environment you claimed to hate? Your complaint is that you weren’t rewarded for having a negative attitude while contributing less than is expected, and fostering a toxic environment. Over the years, I’ve worked in several positions with the Firm including managing departments and interviewing prospective employees. Default servicing is a highly competitive industry, with little else to distinguish one Firm from the next, which is why we emphasize excellent customer service. There are only a certain number of ways to achieve the standard of excellence our client’s expect, and principle among them is working efficiently. This is a place of employment after all, and that may not always mean it’s a fun and exciting place to hang out. At every opportunity, the Firm integrates technology for the purpose of automating remedial tasks and improving efficiency. Managers use programs to monitor workflow and allocate resources in a team environment so that employees are able to support each other and accomplish their respective tasks in a reasonable amount of time. The Firm maintains an open door policy, and we appreciate feedback as well as constructive criticism from our employees. We have made and continue to make improvements to our overall process. We even take the time to read and respond to the reviews posted on this website, and have taken valid information and recommendations into consideration. Are there challenges and frustrations? Yes, but that is true of any job. The only thing we can control is our attitude and reaction to those outside forces.

Cons

Employees creating a negative work environment, while complaining to others, rather than providing constructive criticism and working with management.
