Pros
Pros - Genuine career progression I joined in my early 20s and progressed from Marketing Executive to Senior Marketing Executive to Marketing Manager in a relatively short space of time. Progression is based on performance and attitude, not just time served. - Regular pay reviews If you work hard and deliver, it is recognised. Pay increases are not rare or awkward conversations. - Supportive leadership Management are approachable, listen to feedback and genuinely take it on board. I have always felt respected and trusted to do my job properly. - Ongoing development If you care about your profession and your industry, the business will invest time in you. Training, responsibility and exposure come quickly, and development does not stop once you get promoted. - Responsibility you will not get elsewhere You are given ownership and autonomy much earlier than you would be at larger media companies. You are trusted to run with things, make decisions and learn fast. - Strong culture and socials It is a young, energetic company with plenty of social opportunities. People work hard, but there is a genuine effort to make the environment enjoyable. - Wellbeing is taken seriously Support is there both professionally and personally. Mental wellbeing is not brushed aside, and there is always someone you can speak to. - Great location The office location is genuinely a plus and makes the working week that bit easier. The office is situated a short walk away from Southwark, Waterloo and Blackfriars -A place to grow long term Even after being here for a number of years, I still see it as a brilliant place to work. The opportunities continue to evolve as the business grows.
Cons
- The events industry is demanding There are periods, particularly around major events, where longer hours are expected and the pace is intense. It can be full-on, and it is not an industry that suits everyone. - Fast-paced environment You do need to come in ready to hit the ground running. Expectations are high from the outset, which may feel challenging if you are used to a slower or more structured onboarding process. That said, this is fairly standard across the events industry. - Peaks and troughs Workloads can fluctuate depending on where you are in the event cycle. Busy periods are very busy, although they are also the most rewarding and when you feel most part of the team.
Pros
Nice office in good location and good food options around the office.
Cons
Working at Shard Financial Media was the most toxic professional experience I've ever had. The environment is deeply cliquey, with a popularity hierarchy that makes it feel more like a high school playground than a workplace. Senior staff behave like bullies, and if you’re not part of their inner circle, you’ll likely be singled out and pushed out—often under vague or unfair pretenses. Professionalism is practically non-existent. Even a minor misstep, or simply being yourself, can result in being ostracized. Gossip and internal drama are constant and exhausting. There’s no sense of psychological safety—just tension and walking on eggshells. Junior employees are treated terribly, especially during event days when you're expected to work excessively long hours without adequate compensation. The workload is extreme, the pay is appalling, and the turnover is through the roof. It seemed like someone was quitting or getting fired every other week. I felt constantly uneasy and uncomfortable during my time here, and I've genuinely never been so relieved to leave a job. This is not a healthy or sustainable place to work. I would strongly advise anyone considering Shard Financial Media to look elsewhere.
