Pros

Continuously on the move managing a wide range of things. It was great to interact with customers daily while building relationships. Advancement can be quick if you are the "type" they are looking for.

Cons

Emails about marketing excellence and keeping up on your employees performances. Easily replaceable since they acquired a multi-billion dollar company (Valspar) and they need to hire new college grads to replace tenure employees to offset the cost. Don't ask for a full time employee- nothing but babysitting your part time help. I didn't mind working retail hours but most do. Upper Management promotes people they like rather than proven employees. I had the second most profitable store in a large district and yet loss prevention came in to falsely accusing me of something I did not do. I have heard testimonies of large companies doing this to employees who need to be replaced with cheaper labor but in reality I experienced the same situation and found afterwards that others were removed as well. Large companies financially critique the payroll in the wrong measures after reaping the costs of mergers & acquisitions.

Pros

Wonderful employees at each store, particularily helpful at navigating the vast expanse of products. Overall, great work environment with special people.

Cons

Customer base could be annoying at times, refusing advice or assistance and then complaining about prices. Contractors can be difficult to deal with especially on weekends, acting like they deserve the best prices and won't listen to manager suggestions.

Pros

A positive work environment. The best co-workers I have had so far in my career worked with me at Sherwin. I also worked under an amazing management team. There is a lot of room for career growth. I worked for Sherwin for about 3.5 years. I started as a contracted lab technician, then I was hired full time as an R&D Associate Chemist. I quickly worked my way up to R&D Chemist within a year of being hired full time. The department I worked in was very fast paced, however, I know there are many other groups that move at a much slower pace with longer timelines. This would make it much easier to manage the workload.

Cons

Working with marketing was challenging at times. We would regularly receive big requests a day before they needed something. This would pose a challenge when you had other priorities to attend to. The pay was average. I do think it could have been slightly higher for all of the job responsibilities given to the chemists in my group specifically. The workload was overwhelming at times.
