Pros

Like any staffing agency, you pick when and what you want to work. App has a nice interface.

Cons

One important thing to note about working for ShiftGig is that you need to choose just one out of a few different job types to focus on. The options are/were: call center, food service, or experiential events/marketing. I chose the experiential events/marketing one. It's also important to mention here that when I was in the local office for my group interview, I asked if there were many options for work and what the location spread was like, since I drove out of my way to get to the office, I didn't want to get into the app and find out there was very few things available and they would all be far away from where I lived. I was specifically told by their community operations person, that the area I was in was loaded with opportunities like what I had signed up for and I wouldn't have to worry about their being scarce options that were all located very far from where I lived. Unfortunately, when I explored the app, I found the exact opposite as I had originally feared. There were maybe 2 shifts total on any given day, and they were always taken. Plus, every one of the maybe 5 or so unique opportunities were extremely far away from where I lived. It gets worse, the shifts I was seeing available had nothing to do with what I had signed up for. I was seeing nothing relating to experiential events, just general labor and warehouse work. I chatted with support many, many times in the app as well as over the phone. Eventually, someone informed me that I am in Shiftgig, when I wanted to actually be in ShiftgigX. That was the first time I had even heard that ShiftGigX was a thing. I asked them how I get to be in that? They said when you first sign up, you have to choose "experiential events", I said I did exactly that. So that's when I realized that my local office, aside from not submitting my paperwork, once they finally were pressed to do it by HQ, they put me in the wrong program altogether. The person on the phone apologized and recommended that I try signing up on the website again the same way and seeing if that works out. I went ahead and did just that. The first time I had done that, I got feedback on my application very quickly from ShiftGig, so this time around, when I got nothing in my email after a couple weeks, I decided to reach out again and see what is happening. I talked to someone else in Chicago and explained the situation and they weren't able to offer any help. They tried reaching out to my local office and couldn't get a hold of anyone there. I told them I was having the same problem. They said I should try signing up again, the exact same way I just did. I told them I don't think that's a great plan since that's literally what I just did and nothing has come of it, but if you think that's the best way to handle this, I'll do it. Needless to say, that yielded no results. Since then, I have tried reaching out to ShiftGigX on twitter and have not gotten a reply. But, the regular Shiftgig twitter saw what I wrote and wrote me back asking about my situation, once I went through and described my whole story to them, they said couldn't offer any help to me. They just said I should write an email to the main ShiftGig support team, so I did just that. I explained my story again in the email and waited. I got the email saying they had received my message and someone would reply to me soon. Finally, after two full weeks of not getting a reply, I called the HQ in Chicago again to ask what had happened with my email and why I never got a response? The person there apologized and asked for the email # so he could check it out and mark it resolved since he would help me out. He decided to try and reach out to ShiftGigX's team and couldn't get in touch with them either. But, he gave me the number for ShiftGigX and an extension number for someone he said could help with my situation. After weeks, I have called that extension many times and it always goes directly to voicemail, and my voicemail has never been replied to. I have also let the main number ring till it went to the main voicemail for ShiftGigX and that voicemail has never been replied to either. So, since I could not get through to ShiftGigX, I called the main number in Chicago again and this time talked to someone else and explained the situation and she said she was sorry and she will do her best to reach out to my local office and the ShiftGigX team on my behalf and call me back that day) as soon she heard back from them. That was a over week ago. Today, I went on Shiftgig's website to apply again for experiential events. They've changed/added options to the application but experiential events is still there, so I went ahead and did that. After I entered all my information and hit submit, the screen has been stuck on the green ShiftGig loading icon for over an hour, just going around and around, not ever showing that it has fully accepted my submission, so I'm not sure what to do whether it took it and I can close it or I should let it keep going. So, I called my local office to see if I could get any help, but it went straight to the voicemail. I left one, we'll see if I hear back. Then I called the main number in Chicago, usually I sit on hold for anywhere from 5 to 35 minutes until someone picks up. This time however, 10 minutes into listening to their "hold" music, the call was disconnected, that was the first time that had ever happened. After a day or so I called the main number in Chicago again and spoke to someone else, explained the situation to him and he gave me the extension number for someone else at ShiftGigX, said it was the General Manager and she could help me with my ongoing problems. I called her extension and sure enough, it went to voicemail, I left one, and haven't heard back. It has gone to voicemail every time I've called it over the past couple days. Another day or so later, I called both extensions at ShiftGigX to see if anyone was at their phone, they weren't. So I called up the local office to see if I could reach my local office and to my shock, they picked up. I explained my situation to her and she wrote a letter to people at ShiftGigX and said we should hear back from them at some point, but they are hard to reach because things are handled very technically. As of writing this, that was almost a week ago and I haven't heard anything from either team via any form of communication. That brings us to now, and this comprehensive review of my, thus far, miserable experience with Shiftgig. Hopefully my experience is far from the normal, it seems that way from the other reviewers. I don't doubt that people are finding success with this company. I think a major part of that is getting opportunities that align with what you originally signed yourself up for. Still, I am writing this as a warning so you can see that if there is a problem, it may be nearly impossible to solve by anyone on their team. Hopefully, this so called "Engaged Employed" will see my story and take note and make some changes so that I am the only one who has to go through this headache for something that should be able to be handled very easily.
