As far as retail chains go, Shoprite is one of the best. Great pay compared to other chains.

Severe Safety & Workplace Culture Issues: The environment is highly toxic and presents significant safety concerns, particularly for female and younger employees. Inappropriate behavior, harassment, and discriminatory language from both coworkers and management are widespread and go unaddressed. Human Resources fails to properly investigate reports of harassment or misconduct, and there is a documented culture of retaliation against employees who speak up. Hostile Management & Extreme Micromanagement: Management practices are highly restrictive and lack empathy. Staff are routinely micromanaged over basic necessities, including drinking water and using the restroom. Rest breaks are regularly interrupted with work demands, and leadership lacks compassion regarding family emergencies or bereavement leave. Furthermore, management behavior shifts superficially only when high-level corporate executives visit. Substandard Sanitation & Working Conditions: The store suffers from severe pest control and cleanliness issues in both employee break areas and main facilities. Cashiers are subjected to rigid physical strain without being permitted to rest or lean during long shifts. Additionally, maintenance and janitorial staff are routinely overworked and subjected to unfair, disproportionate workloads.
