Pros

As a per session SLP, this is a great place to work. The leadership will work with you whether you want to work 2 days a week or full time so you can maintain work/life balance that suits your needs. If you love to work in a school, but don't want to be responsible for IEP meetings or writing IEPs, this is a perfect place. You will be placed in a school to do therapy which is what we love to do! Sidekick seems to keep contracts with school systems for years so you can be pretty certain you will be in your school for a while. You can let them know what part of Tennessee you want to work. You can also do teletherapy. You will have the opportunity to be a part of a school culture but without the obligations of working for a school system such as bus duty, data meetings, faculty meetings, etc. This is a solid place to work especially for therapists who are seasoned- maybe you have worked in a school for a while and want a change or want to go part time. The leadership trusts you to do your job and are helpful when needed. The district coordinators and clinical leads check in on you to see if you need anything. You also can choose to participate in team outings or not if you don't want to do that, but they do provide those opportunities such as hikes, dinners, etc. When you start working here, they have a great system of people who will mentor you, show you how to write notes and evaluations in their system, explain insurance information and are available to answer any questions or look over reports. The EMR system is easy to use. If you make a mistake on billing, everyone is super nice and they will walk you through fixing it with no problems. They have in house free continuing education so you can easily get your required hours through them. They are quality workshops/inservices. They give you rewards such as gift cards and gifts of appreciation at the yearly party. The yearly training meetings are a lot of fun with team building exercises as well as time to get your caseload together to begin the year. Commutes can be an hour but they provide carpools and company cars so you are not driving your own vehicle. You also get a stipend at the beginning of the year for materials which you keep as your own and a stipend is provided if you would like to attend other conferences. I love how the company has a variety of therapists from CFs to seasoned therapists that you can bounce off ideas and get resources. They also have a resource library built in to their system that you can use and also contribute to if you would like to make resources. The leadership is compassionate if you have a family situation and need to take time off and as a per session therapist, there have been plenty of opportunities over breaks if I want extra work. You do get paid to attend mandatory company meetings and to do progress reports every quarter. They always have leadership openings if you want to pursue that. Overall, I feel like you can have what you want at this company whether it be working part time, full time, leadership, or just work and going home. They will meet your needs.

Cons

When you are per session and there are school closures or holidays, you don't get paid. You only get paid for the therapy sessions you perform, which is understood when you are hired, however, per session therapists do not get raises every year or even every 2-3 years. This can be frustrating and I am not sure if there is room for negotiation. I have also found out that some per session therapists make more than I do regardless of years of experience.
