Pros

Family-oriented, fun-loving, casual environment that is welcoming to artist of all levels. It is a fantastic starting-out job or one to end your career with. Employees are proud to work for Silkworm and living in the small town of Murphysboro, IL.

Cons

Because it is a small business, the pay is lower than most other graphic design jobs. The busy season sees long days of 10+ hours and some weekend time. Hectic is an understatement at times. All employees must be ready for a fast-paced high-stakes environment.

Pros

Teambuilding Events: All aspects of the company work together from the art department to the print department, so teambuilding is essential. The company will include specific days of each month for the team to come together from baking to games. I loved every aspect of this. Volunteer Work: If you want to join a company where you serve the community alongside your co-workers then this is a great company that wants you to reach out to the community. Great Co-Workers: I felt in the art department we were able to lift each other up with feedback to improve our work. You can ask the more experienced artists to look over your work to make sure your work is done effectively. Great Food: Food is a big part of the company from each department coming together to make a big feast for Thanksgiving, to a cake month, Silkworm finds an excuse to make great food. Sometimes if the department is doing well (Which is often) a customer will deliver food to the crew to show appreciation! They love cats

Cons

Need More Artists: The only few cons I could think of is the workload is heavy some days like any job, and the company needs to hire more artists to help with the load. But with this load, the team is willing to help you, so don't hesitate to ask for help! Fast Paced: Fast turn around time for some projects, but the art department helps you learn how to get faster. They will start you off with practice work before you begin the real work to be sent in, and this helps take a lot of pressure off. I really loved this being implemented.

Pros

Leaders are great teachers! They take time out to make sure you are going in the right direction. The team building events almost happen daily it seems. Food is great, everyone is just all around nice. We take time to have meetings about workflow and how we can improve. They acknowledge new employees as one of their own on day 1 and share the floor to allow us to speak and offer information o help the team

Cons

Somewhat unrealistic deadlines to finish projects. There isn’t enough time to put in your best work. Just a lot of work hacks to get through the project. Don’t get me wrong, we make great work. But if we could have more time to think and work through a design we could provide even better work. Pay is crap, absolute crap for remote designers. It takes more time to keep up with emails than it does actually doing the projects. And they only pay for the projects done… Not worth it at all.
