Pros

Mostly remote. Other than leadership there are some good people there however they are fleeing at an alarming rate.

Cons

This review reflects my personal experience, which is important to share to spare others. SmartLight has a meaningful purpose and a mission that genuinely matters to its clients. That’s what drew me here. Unfortunately, what I’ve experienced is a company that is extremely disjointed, unorganized, and led by individuals who, in my view, do not demonstrate the qualities of true leaders. Because of this, client needs often go unmet or are handled far later than they should be. The department responsible for servicing customers is especially fragmented. They struggle to keep up with demand, largely due to high turnover and internal systems that feel outdated and chaotic. There may be parts of the company where employees are happy, but the team responsible for client relationships is led by the CSO, and based on what I’ve seen, her leadership style is controlling, overly involved, and unsupportive. Instead of developing the team or improving processes, the focus seems to be on chasing new business, even though the team is already stretched thin. Because she inserts herself into every detail, she becomes a bottleneck, which causes the entire team to fall behind. This leads to late‑night calls and last‑minute scrambling before morning meetings. If you value personal time or work‑life balance, this environment will be difficult. The internal tools and processes feel outdated, which makes it challenging to deliver the level of service the company promises. It’s discouraging to see how often the team is forced to rely on old work or patchwork solutions simply because the systems don’t support what’s needed. In front of clients, the CSO presents herself well; confident and polished. Behind the scenes, however, I’ve witnessed behavior that feels unprofessional and dismissive. She speaks negatively about team members, creates tension, and contributes to an atmosphere of fear rather than support. Leadership does not appear to address this, likely because she performs well externally, but that doesn’t translate into healthy internal leadership. Training is minimal. New hires are directed to listen to old recorded calls, and when questions come up, the CSO is often too busy to meet. When she does make time, it’s only for a few minutes; not enough to set anyone up for success. It’s no surprise that turnover is so high. For a company of this size, the constant cycle of hiring and losing employees is alarming. New team members are introduced to clients so frequently that it becomes uncomfortable. On top of that, new employees are repeatedly reminded that the first 90 days are a “trial period” and they can be let go at any time. Instead of motivating people, it creates anxiety and makes you question whether you made the right decision from day one.

Pros

Very passionate group of people actually looking to make a difference in the healthcare industry. Every one I have spoken to is incredibly smart and really knows their stuff, I can’t speak to all mangers but I do feel that my direct supervisor does look out for me and wants the team to succeed. Overall I feel like I’ve learned a lot here and I am excited to see how the company grows

Cons

It can feel like a hectic environment at times, juggling deadlines and other projects can be a little bit of a struggle
