Pros
High wages, great medical and retirement benefits. Union protection. Great work-life balance. Lots of opportunities to work several jobs and go up the pay scale and even get into management as long as you are patient and stick it out in the seniority based system.
Cons
Incompetent, apathetic and unprofessional management and coworkers because of seniority based system. Not the brightest or most mature people in the utilities sector yet they are protected because of the union. Redundant work. No ambition. No one cares about anyone or anything here they just go with the motions, it is a very dull but high-paying job. As a part-timer you get treated as a lesser employee by the full-timers and even management. Takes a long time to make it to full-time because of the seniority based system. Part-time hours can be very low and inconsistent, anywhere from 10-25 hours a week depending on the department you work in.
