This is a start-up experiencing more than growing pains. They have some serious issues with their management team. The CEO is great, but two of the partners behave like dictators. They issue edicts with no basis in fact. I had one partner tell me to change a design and then a week later had me change it back. I was told to lengthen heat fins even though mathematically the additional height made absolutely no difference and made the part more expensive. I tried to maintain some semblance of revision control, only to be sabotaged by one of the partners who felt he had to take ownership of the design. They claim they want more formal processes and want employees to be autonomous, but the two partners micromanage the work to the point nothing moves forward. I spent six months on a design that anywhere else I would have had in prototype in three months.
I was not their first mechanical engineer and I won't be their last. Management has no patience to hand hold someone who is junior and anybody senior isn't going to put up with the bs.
