Spectrum Tuition Response
1yThank you for taking the time to share your experience.
We’re always open to feedback and committed to continuous improvement—but we’d also like to provide some clarity for others considering a role with us.
Marking & Admin Time:
Tutors are paid for an hour of post-class marking (during the time between sessions or at the end of the day), plus an additional hour midweek if needed. For more intensive classes—such as composite, scholarship, or selective—we allocate additional time to ensure tutors are properly supported.
Most marking can also be completed during class time, and we provide guidance on how to manage this efficiently while still delivering high-quality feedback for students.
Mentoring & Observations:
Our mentoring program includes in-person classroom observations, where tutors receive real-time feedback on managing time, engaging students, and running smooth lessons. These sessions are designed to help tutors feel more confident and effective while they transition into this role.
Classroom Structure:
All classes are capped at 15 students. Composite classes are not the norm—it’s a contingency that reflects the reality of operating in a live education environment.
Support, Feedback & Community:
We run termly appraisals, internal surveys, and regular team meetings, where tutors can share ideas, ask questions, and raise concerns in a collaborative environment. We’re proud of the community that exists within our team, and we continue refining our systems based on the feedback we receive.
We also want to acknowledge that this role may not be the right fit for everyone. It’s designed for those who genuinely care about education and want to grow personally and professionally.
No educator can ever be paid what they’re truly worth—but what we can do is invest in our tutors throughout the time they are with us. We pay the industry award rates but we also invest further in our tutors’ growth by providing paid extensive training, all materials to teach, ongoing support, and the kind of practical, real-world experience that many of our former tutors have told us helped them thrive—and that very few workplaces can offer, particularly when it comes to building skills that gear them for the next stage of their careers.
We’re proud of what we’re building - a community rooted in growth, feedback, and real-life skill development. And we remain committed to getting better every term.
In saying this, we’re sorry to hear this wasn’t your experience, and we genuinely wish you all the best in your future endeavours. We’ll also be reviewing our internal processes to see if there are any areas that could be further tightened moving forward.
Thanks again for your valuable feedback .
