Pros

Able to work at home and extremely interesting to talk with the South Korean students. If you do a good job, they'll really respect you. You are able to tutor the same students over a long period of time, so you get to develop a very friendly working relationship with them.

Cons

The main issue I had with this job is that they are very inflexible and getting time off means you will have "points deducted" unless management approves your absence. They claim you'll make $12 an hour, but if they don't fill up your schedule for a particular hour, it's very possible (and quite frequent) you will make below minimum wage (sometimes as low as $4 an hour). Also, you only get paid 75 for typing up student progress reports, which is outrageously low. They are able to do this because you're employed as an independent contractor.

Pros

None. This company is absolutely irredeemable and exploits desperate tutors. Avoid working here at all costs.

Cons

Insultingly low pay for the work they demand. Managers are passive aggressive, condescending blowhards who micromanage, harass, threaten and bully tutors over the slightest imperfection. Little warning or notice is given for last-minute bookings, and the tutors are punished for it if they are unable to make that lesson. They require you to be logged in and on standby for the duration of your shift, without paying you for the time you spend online. You are only paid for the time you spend teaching. Additionally, you are NOT paid for last-minute cancellations by students. It was commonplace that I started a shift with a full schedule and, due to last-minute cancellations, only ended up teaching 2 students that day, drastically reducing my pay. To make matters worse, they indiscriminately lay off tutors as part of their "restructuring" strategy. They did not give any explanation as to why I was laid off, and completely ceased communication with me after they did so.
