Pros

Pay is better than most of the mental health tech platforms, especially for EAP. You get to choose your hours and caseload. Their EHR is easy to use.

Cons

I’ve had SpringHealth’s own employees (corporate) come to EAP therapy because of work stress and burnout directly related to the CEO, April Koh. The way she treats her corporate employees is indicative of how she runs the company and perceives therapists/coaches. She is not a mental health professional, and there doesn’t seem to be a MH consultant on staff that can advise, so there are some gaps in her knowledge base that aren’t getting filled while she’s trying to run this company. I’m not saying it did or didn’t happen, but hypothetically speaking, the company’s CEO shouldn’t be using its own therapy services. Because that would cause some ethical issues there. Not to mention EAP is designed for employees who may not have resources for private pay. But let’s hope she knows what EAP is actually for. Just saying, if you can afford to pay full rate for a service, you should leave resources to those who need them. Again, hypothetically. Secondly. The clients you get are often not good fit. Apparently when they sign up for the EAP benefits, no one is explaining to them what therapy actually is. Instead, because it is a “free” service to them, they schedule intakes “just because”, when mental health turns out to not be an area of concern. Rather, sometimes they might need career/life coaching instead. There is a poor understanding of what mental health TREATMENT entails, no education given to employees who sign up. So because no one here seems to understand what MH is (or seems to understand therapy as a place to just talk/vent), it devalues the profession. Because of their lack of information (SH’s fault, not the clients), you unfortunately end up doing a lot the HR stuff for them during intake (they need help looking up their benefits/sessions, explaining how the benefit works vs using their insurance off the platform, helping them decide between coaching and therapy, etc).

Pros

Many talented people trying to do good work, that I wish I could have worked with for longer. Good compensation and benefits. The company mission is admirable, even if it isn't realistic.

Cons

Disregard the negative Glassdoor reviews at your own risk. So many reviews over these past few months could have been written by me, but weren't. A company that was sincere about its mission, and being mission-based, would understand the importance of mental health for those who work to make the mission a reality - the employees. If you are sincere in your passion for mental health, and value maintaining your own, do not be surprised if the culture spits you back out.
