The primary challenge at this high school stems from an out-of-touch and inconsistent administrative culture. There is a noticeable disconnect between the realities of the classroom and the expectations set by leadership, often resulting in policy decisions that actively impede effective teaching. The culture is significantly marred by favoritism and perceived vindictiveness. This inconsistency makes it difficult to trust leadership and creates a toxic work environment where staff members are afraid to advocate for themselves or their students. The general atmosphere is one of profound micromanagement, where teachers are not treated as trained professionals. This manifests as excessive red tape around instructional freedom, turning curriculum implementation into a box-checking exercise. Worse, there is a pervasive feeling that documentation is used primarily for the collection of evidence to use against teachers, rather than for support. The toxicity of this environment is physically visible; I have personally witnessed multiple instances where colleagues came into my classroom, furious or crying, directly due to the poor, unprofessional treatment they received from the administration. Furthermore, the mechanisms for teacher support and evaluation are heavily flawed. Instructional coaches are consistently utilized as administrative proxies for monitoring compliance rather than as genuine partners in professional growth. Observations are often superficial, employing ineffective and tick-box observation strategies that prioritize documentation over deep, meaningful pedagogical improvement. Feedback tends to focus on minor procedural flaws rather than substantive teaching practice, suggesting the goal is compliance monitoring rather than true development. This setup undermines the core function of professional development and breeds resentment. If an administrator from SLPHS is reading this, please understand this is the general sentiment of nearly every teacher in the building. There is a noticeably massive age gap in the teachers in the high school. There are many very young, probationary teachers (or teachers seasoned who have JUST joined the district and are soon to figure out that they need to find another place to work). In contrast, there are many teachers who are nearing retirement and are simply putting up with the managerial practices at SLPHS. I wonder why,
