Pros
great coworkers, beautiful outdoor surroundings, nice facilities
Cons
This is one of those places where you can work for years, maybe see a few red flags, annoying but nothing too glaring, and then over time you realize...I think I work for the devil. They pretend to care for employees' well-being, but it is the last priority on the list. Middle management is generally poorly trained and incompetent, but in their defense they get dumped on the most. Staff morale is always in the toilet and leadership sends out surveys constantly about what people are happy or unhappy about (as if they would actually change anything)...it's actually now a joke amongst staff, because nothing ever changes, nothing ever will. We consistently provide feedback that the executives and leadership are the problem, but over and over the survey results are dumped on middle management to "fix the problem" in their own departments...but that's not where the problems are. Sister Catherine founded this hospital "in the spirit of love and compassion." well, she would be shocked and appalled to see what the place has become...a hotbed of cover-ups, problems swept under the rug, misallocation of resources, miserable staff, employee abuses, and politicians (not healthcare professionals) at the top who really they think they can get away with anything because they are the only game in town...don't like the way we do things? Good luck finding another hospital in Bend to work for! They don't care about the staff...or the patients for that matter...whatsoever. I am sad to say that I used to be so proud of our hospital, but now, after what I've seen and heard, I wouldn't dare allow anyone I loved to become a patient there. Not because the staff isn't good...but the staff is limited by hospital policies, culture, and politics...and those are so toxic nowadays that they are downright dangerous. I am a current employee but I will be making my escape soon. And I will breathe a huge sigh of relief when I leave...but I will still grieve what was once a good hospital...and for the people left behind.
