Pros

Creative team of professionals focused on creating trustworthy news to keep the St. Louis public informed of events affecting them.

Cons

Massive cuts to the news industry have hit the St. Post-Dispatch as well. Too few employees and outsourcing of departments make it difficult to continue meeting the high standards of journalism which is frustrating. Print subscribers are neglected as the focus becomes on moving to the online platform.

Pros

Very good team. Doesn’t have a toxic culture.

Cons

There’s really nothing to complain about.

Pros

The medical and dental benefits were (surprisingly) pretty good. There were a few good people there who I enjoyed working with. Freedom to try new ideas, but lots of red tape everywhere as usual within a larger corporation.

Cons

I've never worked with such a group of self-important, power-hungry people than in the Marketing Department at the P-D. If you don't suck up, and have the nerve to speak up when you believe something is wrong, you will not go very far. The people who hold management positions are those who suck up to the VP (but are happy to talk very badly about her behind closed doors.) A very unhealthy work environment. I do not miss working there at all. Its a shame, as the paper enjoys a long legacy and is the last daily paper in St. Louis. Lee Enterprises isn't a good parent company, and many old-timers longingly talk of the Pulitzer days. Add to all of this the fact that the newspaper industry is fading fast, and as a result, there are continuous layoffs. And constant furloughs and freezes on raises, promised benefits and bonuses that were never delivered despite meeting the criteria agreed on for them... hard to keep your morale up.
