Pros

When I was there, they'd have a nice company Christmas party, they'd also grill out from time to time. I learned a lot from a talented developer they had before he quit. They gave me a few paid days off for the birth of my son.

Cons

Low pay. Small projects. Small time customers. Owners burden the technical staff with slumping sales. When I was there, they had only one sales person, and she was very incompetent. However, she was the wife of one of the owners, so the technical team was burdened with her professional incompetence. They let 4 people go in one week a few week after telling the company that they were profitable and no layoffs would happen. The company is very flat so there is no room for growth.

Pros

Small company with friendly employees. The owners know you and your family and care about your well being. Great place to get experience with all kinds of technology. They will help you get certifications, and allow you to learn new technologies. If you are a self starter this is a great place to work, while there are basic StarTech standards that need to be used with the clients you are still free to come up with custom solutions for your clients problems. The benefits are adequate, but it is a small company so they can't match the top of the line benefits of larger companies. The owners do listen to employee suggestions but again being a small company they can't implement everything and changes can take some time. Many of my ideas were implemented and my suggestions were always welcomed. They have company events like cook outs in the summer and a nice Christmas party. I worked at StarTech for over 17 1/2 years (about 1/3 of my working career), I really liked working for StarTech.

Cons

The pay and benefits are a little lower than bigger companies but the small company feel and the of the owners and coworkers was worth more to me than a top dollar salary where I was just a number instead of a member of the team. Most days you work regular hours but like all IT jobs there is some after hours and weekend work.

Pros

Small company feel. The Red Wing office would have a grill out every so often. The owners know everyone in the company, so you are not amoungst thousands of strangers. They are open to newer technologies and will help you get Microsoft Certifications. Decent work/life balance.

Cons

Low Pay. They target small companies with even smaller budgets. So there is constant financial pressure. The owners make burden the employees with the companies financial woes and ask for ways they could turn it around, but nothing ever changes. At times, the owners are more concerned with looking good than doing the right thing. The sales staff is not technically savvy. When companies talk with multiple consulting companies, Startech's technical incompitence makes them look weak in comparison to "big boy" companies.
