Pros

Flexible with allowing personal time off Free coffee, drinks, snacks Casual environment Paid time off to see occasional movies Generally nice people

Cons

Members of senior management are family members or close friends, so neutrality is hard to find Senior management does not have work-life balance, as a result, work-life balance cannot be expected by anyone else in the company Senior management does not have any formal management training, as a result, they do not know how to manage people in a productive way When a given project is completed, senior management likes to "clean house" The company operates in feast or famine, there is no middle ground; things are either very good, or very bad Consistent review process does not exist Communication between departments of the company is very poor Company's systems are a house of cards; small issues are difficult to fix and have wide-reaching effects

Pros

The games side Stardock is staffed by some truly underpraised talent and experience. The team is welcoming and passionate about their work. The company focuses on developing people, wanting to foster talent and develop it which can be a rarity in the games industry. It has a nice location near multiple larger cities, smaller suburban towns, and not far from the middle of nowhere if you prefer nature. The company pushes for healthy work-life balances, avoiding crunch and ensuring employees utilize their time off along with multiple week-long holiday breaks and the occasional company outing that keeps any part of the year from becoming monotonous.

Cons

Things can move quickly at Stardock. There's a strong preference to iterate and get something good then get it great the first time. There are moments where a bit more planning could be helpful but if you can handle the occasionally hectic day with a sudden deadline it's nothing unmanageable.
