Pros

The students are fantastic. Each moment with them is fun and engaging. Trust that the students benefit greatly from the time they spend with their mentors.

Cons

Not paid enough, toxic work environment, abusive/gossiping staff members continue being overlooked after complaints against them, constant staff changes, unethical hiring practices with former leadership, understaffed even when leadership deems us to be a full capacity, unreasonable workload expectations on all staff, no opportunities to move up within the organization, organization does not take time to properly train or develop staff, other than PTO all other benefits are laughable, multiple people have been fired day of with no notice and for seemingly no reason, when people leave they become the scapegoat to all of the problems that continue to occur, not enough efforts with Diversity& Inclusion in student programming, embarrassing social media and community presence, extreme focus on fundraising and little focus on improving programming. The list goes on.

Pros

The Mission! Starfish students are some of the best around. Staff is welcoming and very much a "family". Starfish is great about comp time. If you work a weekend event, you can take a day off during the week to comp that time. They are good about accommodating your schedule when the need arises.

Cons

Very large case loads so very much quantity over quality work. Lacking professional development opportunities, no retirement, health savings account, and health premiums are expensive and deductibles extremely high. Raises barely cover (if cover at all) increased cost in health care each year.
