Stash Response
7yHi there-
Thank you for your feedback, we take it very seriously and thus I wanted to ensure that I was thorough in my response. I stand firm in the belief that it's not an accurate reflection of our culture or company overall, but I do want to wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.
As a company that just turned two, has over $100M in funding and has grown (population-wise) by over 600% over the past 1.75 years, we have experienced a lot of change. That said, our employee attrition has remained low the entire time, hovering right around 9%. I'd like to invite you to email me directly so that I can really think through your call-outs.
As far as how we view ourselves, we are a Fintech org through and through. In fact most of our employees come from technology companies, agencies, or other startups. We do have a handful of folks from financial institutions (mostly on the brokerage side) which makes complete sense since we are a fintech org. At the same time, we stand firm in our core value to "Be yourself," and encourage our people to be proud of and embrace their differences.
From a culture perspective, the feedback we've gotten at our 30 and 60 day check-ins with new employees as well as the anonymous engagement survey that we run twice a year has been pretty phenomenal. Although culture encapsulates much more than perks or fun events, we consistently benchmark the environment and our employee offerings to remain competitive in the startup ecosystem. We are fiercely protective and proud of what we've built here from women's Lean-in Circles, to sponsoring soccer and kickball teams, to gift drives for NY Cares, to hosting meetups with Out in Tech and Women in Fintech, to surprise performances by singing Jedi's and mariachi bands. Fun is simply part of our DNA. At the same time, I recognize that our culture isn't for everybody.
Regarding the idea of having bias towards earlier Stash employees, I will simply say that we started 2017 off with 27 employees and we are currently 178 today, so nearly every Stash employee could be considered new.
