Pros

Ethical company -- State Farms trains their people to look for ways to pay a claim versus decline a claim. Good, high caliber people work here -- but with the recent onboarding of so many new people, hired enmasse -- the quality has considerably decreased. It's not a reflection of the people....its a reflection of the changing company culture.

Cons

Since the current CEO is the former CFO, the focus in now on $$ and how to save by shaving off people numbers. We're lean and I've seen loads of good people leaving due to realignments. While some of the realignment decision make sense -- other decisions and directions are clearly arbitrary. We were once an organization that took their quality folks into consideration -- no longer -- despite having one of our best claims years, we've chopped people.

Pros

(At the time) Fair pay and predictable bonus structure They were pretty good at covering travel expenses and paying them back quickly Diverse workforce & diversity initiatives Fun and funny coworkers Opportunities for growth Again, this was all four years ago and has likely changed

Cons

(At the time and now, according to other comments) Arrogant to a fault Total lack of innovation & willingness to innovate Odd attachment to the company's past (which prevents progress) High number of veterans (20+ years) who are determined to get that retirement money, and therefore, are resistant to change and technology Heavy reliance on command and control management style Poor decision-making that leads to losses of all kinds
