Like a Good Neighbor, obviously does not apply to the employees. - Claims Adjuster State Farm Employee Review

Pros

Pay increases every year, good medical benefits, generous sick time and vacation time.

Cons

If you have a voice, you will not be promoted. The company does not like those who are strong willed, well versed, and will challenge an issue. They have management forums where the management asks the employees to ask questions, but when you ask question regarding work flow issues, you are ostracized. There is way too much favoritism and there are clicks within management. Which means the people they like most get promoted. The room for growth seems non existent. In order to even be considered for a new position, they want you to have taken "insurance education courses" which may have nothing to do with the new position you are applying for. This is not stated as mandatory on the job description, but can prevent you from getting an interview if you haven' t completed a designation (4-5 courses)

Pros

(At the time) Fair pay and predictable bonus structure They were pretty good at covering travel expenses and paying them back quickly Diverse workforce & diversity initiatives Fun and funny coworkers Opportunities for growth Again, this was all four years ago and has likely changed

Cons

(At the time and now, according to other comments) Arrogant to a fault Total lack of innovation & willingness to innovate Odd attachment to the company's past (which prevents progress) High number of veterans (20+ years) who are determined to get that retirement money, and therefore, are resistant to change and technology Heavy reliance on command and control management style Poor decision-making that leads to losses of all kinds
