Pros
- Small company, family run (both pro and con)
- Some upward mobility available depending on your starting position
- Emphasizes training and knowledge of the products (up to a certain extent)
- Except for outside sales, most positions allow you to get in and get out between 8-5 pm providing a good work-life balance
I would recommend this company for someone who likes to do the job that needs to get done, likes to keep their head down, and is comfortable living without the latest tools or resources.
Cons
- Most top management positions are filled by family members or old friends. Some are great and priceless. Some are very unskilled and incredibly under qualified for their position (these are unanimously agreed upon by the lower staff).
- Employee ideas or improvement recommendations are often ignored. Employee voices are not valued.
- Tools and resources are outdated resulting in a lot of paperwork
- No options what-so-ever to work remotely (the obvious exception is outside sales)
- Training is provided through vendors. If you're already a very technical person a lot of the training will not be helpful as it's geared toward sales.
- Would not recommend for young workers
I would not recommend this company to someone who is a critical thinker, voices their opinion, and wants to improve the environment around them. This company is very old-school and just wants you to do the job on your title and that alone. This company is technologically stuck in the 90's so if you're coming from a company with a CRM or where the departments are pretty seamlessly connected, this will be a tough transition. Lots of miscommunications and inefficiencies.
