Pros
Students who put in effort to succeed despite lack of resources and support. Many long-term employees who want the university to succeed and do what they can to stay afloat in a sea of chaos. A new president who is engaged and active.
Cons
Cons far outweigh pros... 1. Lack of communication between departments. Unprofessional behavior allowed to go unchecked. 2. Decades of extreme fiscal mismanagement have left the university in a precarious financial situation. Steps are being taken to correct course, however a full recovery is unlikely given the severity and breadth of the damage done. 3. Incredibly inefficient purchasing/travel arrangement system that cripples operations. Absolute lack of training in this area. When policy changes are made no one is notified or re-trained on new procedures. 4. Focus on athletics over academics. Athletics gets free rein to spend/do whatever they want and is exempt from the same standards and practices the rest of the university is held to. Winning at athletics is nice, but it does nothing to address the abysmal 22% 6-year graduation rate. 5. Many, many cuts currently being made -- if you are considering pursuing employment here, be aware that you will not have job security. All signs point to the university being on its way to shutting down or becoming a vocational school. 6. If you do get a job, you will be underpaid. Wages and salaries are in no way in line with the cost of living for the area. In the past the low wages could be justified because of the retirement and benefits package. There is no longer any such incentive given the lack of job security.
