They hire literally anyone... even if you can barely swim. Easy work

They pick favorites. Basically if you suck up to Derek or any of his cronies you can pretty much get whatever you ask for, even if it ends up really messing up someone else's schedule. Not very well organized, and due to the favoring system many responsible people work under much less responsible Managers/Supervisors. Red Cross training is very loosely evaluated. Pretty much wouldn't trust any of their life guards (except the ones that do the competitions) to actually be able to perform their necessary duties in an emergency situation.
