Pros

A nonprofit with 100 employees. Good size for learning new skills and progressing professionally.

Cons

Culture is one of haves and have-nots. Those with power give themselves big salaries and perks, and everyone else has to fight for a living wage. Threats of layoffs every year or two, for several years. Some excellent managers. Some managers whose behavior is borderline illegal, and in those cases, HR is unwilling to help. Mission of racial and gender equity not matched by intolerant culture.

Pros

People who work here are smart, engaged citizens and genuinely nice people. Research & development employees especially are passionate about their work.

Cons

As with many other non-profit research organizations, there isn't much job security, as research & development positions are tied to specific projects.

Pros

Very family friendly. Great work-life balance.

Cons

All soft funding so your job is never guaranteed until the next cycle of funding gets awarded, and then you're good for maybe 3 years. You get used to this uncertaintly, though.
