Pros
The design team is amazing, very sweet people!
Cons
Before I start, I want to be upfront that I'm Indian so I'm brown, and unfortunately, this had a massive impact on my experience here. There was unfortunately there was clear racist behavior, and their treatment towards me versus the rest of the team was drastically different.
They were outright rude, rarely taught me anything, and expected years of experience from me despite me clearly stating that I was new to the industry. When I asked questions to clarify tasks—because I learn better by asking questions—they insulted me, saying things like, "I get you're stupid, but you don't have to act this stupid," or, "You can use your brain a bit more than usual." This happened whenever I sought help, and it really took a toll on me.
I’m someone who gets frazzled when scolded for things I didn't know, and the constant belittling made me more prone to mistakes. Others weren't aware that the reason I messed up so much was because someone was always breathing down my neck, making nasty comments that made me nervous. If I had a supportive mentor and someone I could actually ask for help, I would’ve made fewer mistakes and been excited to work. But she made it hard to even show up.
Sometimes the meetings would change language midway to Chinese then sarcastically always got asked, "Did you understand?" knowing full well I didn’t speak Chinese. They wouldn’t just say it privately either— I would be insulted in front of others. They also made "you people" comments as "jokes," which were clearly inappropriate and racially charged.
Feedback was never constructive, just constant criticism. I was judged about the fact that I’m Singaporean but haven’t experienced certain local things, like going to hawker centers and eating local foods.
When it came time for my two-month performance review, I was honest about the challenges, including how the company created an unsafe work environment and damaged my mental health. Their reaction? They laughed in my face. They offered a fake apology and mentioned that I was the first person to ever confront them about their behavior.
The environment is toxic, and the management fosters this kind of behavior without any accountability.
