Pros
The best reason to work at Target has been getting the bullseye on your resume. It's not worth that anymore. The red is losing its luster. The best reason now is to try to hang on to ship in a maelstrom. You'll get experience in workplace turmoil, trying to lead in a leadership vacuum, and trying to establish communication in hush-hush environment. In short, it'll be one of the biggest challenges of your life. Oh, yeah, and Target Marketing has a lot of money to spend.
Cons
No vision. They trade brand clarity for vision. No communication. You'll get little knowledge shared, little feedback, and rarely good direction. No leadership. It just doesn't happen at Target. Forget what you read in HBR, Target works its own way and they don't ever want to change. It's a church, a cult of brand. If you buy in and stay in line, you'll be promoted. They'll tell you to set your own direction, but if you do they'll feel threatened and shut you out.
