Pros
The brand is global, long-established and premium. It opens doors and installs confidence in clients and candidates. The people are professional, hard working and high achieving. It feels more like a professional services firm than a recruitment agency. Everyone is externally competitive, but internally collaborative, supportive and friendly. That’s easy to say, but hard to achieve. Uniquely in my experience of legal recruitment, they are as strong with law firms as they are with in-house legal search. It surprises me how few legal recruitment firms grasp the importance of excelling in both.
Cons
Performance management. I have rarely seen an underperforming fee earner turn their career around at TR. If you have not been successful at your current firm, there is no magic L&D wand at TR. The best performers typically arrive with existing strong recruitment skills / experience and take themselves to the next level by virtue of the quality of the platform and being surrounded by exceptional talent. That said, there are some high performers who joined as graduates: juniors who work hard and apply themselves can succeed.
