Pros
If you’re a new therapist in the field the pay here will be a bit better than other mental health facilities. The benefits were decent. I also enjoyed most of my co-workers. I learned a lot about the acute side of mental health care and crisis management. We were allowed to wear green scrubs.
Cons
As a therapist you will be expected to play the role of a therapist, plus case workers and discharge planner. There was simply not enough time in the day to get everything done efficiently. Too many changes to keep up with weekly and too much disorganization. Be expected to cover other therapist in other units when someone takes off. Be prepared to chase down parents on the phone. Be prepared to deal with the stress of sudden discharges. Be prepared for volatile/dangerous patients and minimum help. Insurance wants the patients to discharge as soon as possible but hospital wants to keep them in as much as possible, so that was difficult to deal with.
