US Programs is a quickly sinking ship - Project Manager The Center for Reproductive Rights Employee Review

Pros

Like all other reviews on this platform mention, the staff who do the actual work of the organization are intelligent, compassionate, dedicated professionals who care deeply about the communities they serve.

Cons

In a matter of weeks the center’s newest leader of the US programs has created such a toxic environment that staff morale has never been lower and anxieties about job security are at an all-time high. The new leadership seems to think using intimidation tactics, gaslighting, as well as disparaging the Center’s teams, clients, and partners is the way to make a good impression. While the newest hire can’t even bribe people to attend her office hours with gift cards, can’t manage to put her phone or facebook down for more than 3 seconds during a meeting, and regularly makes comments that are borderline employment discrimination— the other new hire leading legal strategy routinely yells at and verbally abuses the dedicated staff who are actually doing the work that funders and the public care about. Nothing says, “Thank you for working yourself to the bone to protect reproductive rights,” like screaming at an employee in front of their colleagues, am I right? Two recent hires completely new to the repro field coming into an organization and dismantling longstanding, effective projects and initiatives while having absolutely no original ideas or strategies to implement themselves is sending staff running for the hills.
