Pros
Freedom to work on the projects you want. My advisor was very open to seeing through the projects I wanted, others, I cant say the same thing. You are pretty much free to rule your own roost as long as you keep up with your work and don't slack off.
Cons
Your pay will never increase. This is a government organization therefore you are dictated by state law. But that being said its just a university and you will come out with your degree getting paid a lot more than you would expect. Campus life is very fun as long as you can stand it.
