Pros
All of the co-workers were some really good people. Not only are they extremely helpful, but they all do a lot of hard work.
Cons
So, you are thinking of working at The Plant Foundry? Well, let me help you understand the job experience that you will have there. I had worked for The Plant Foundry since its near-inception, and I must say that I have never been in a more toxic and uncomfortable work place in my life. Working at the Plant Foundry induces a certain level of paranoia that will you would likely experience in a select few places, more along the lines of the outskirts of Area 51 or a Federal prison: you are undoubtably being watched the entire time. Now, every reasonable person can expect there to be a few cameras set up in a business establishment in order to record foul play and theft. This is a natural part of a business. However, an unnatural truth for working at The Plant Foundry is that you are being watched the entire time--or, it seems to feel that way. Attempt to take a fifteen minute break, or attempt to sit down for a minute or two when business is slow, and you will most certainly receive a text message from the owner telling you to perform a task instead of taking a breather. I worked with a person or two who would, during slow times of the day, use her phone for a minute or two. they, too, experienced near-immediate notice via the cameras. As loony as it sounds, working there will put an image in your head of the owner hunched over her home desk with an imac set up and a tablet or two--all with multiple viewing angles of the Plant Foundry visible for her constant viewing pleasure. I stopped taking my 10 minute breaks due to this creepily, out-of-place behavior. Find a good blind spot to let a rather-futile sense of relief wash over you during a stagnant business hour--and it will be corrected by the installation of a new camera in no time. Do you need more evidence of the boss' odd, erratic behavior? You can look carefully at the posted review dates on Glassdoor. One of which is on the twelfth, and two others are on the eleventh of the same month. This is either an extremely unlikely coincidence, or the owner has written these reviews, or told her employees to write them. I would not be surprised if either of those two possibilities happened. Also, I have seen others claim that the owner allows for worker choice in music. No. This is simply a fallacy. Any changes to the Pandora music selection will be erased and changed back as soon as possible unless your song is another hipster piece that sounds identical to the rest of the other six songs that are allowed to play. Working at The Plant Foundry means that if you are a worker--particularly, it seems, a worker from the Oak Park neighborhood--you will be questioned if the money that has been miscounted happens to be in your "purse." I wish that I was joking--but this is the reality of working at this wretched establishment. Also, it is important to note that the place is a disastrous, unorganized mess. Do you need the tape measure? Do you need the paint? Do you need [ Insert other necessary equipment here ] Nothing is ever in a consistent or logical place, causing issues when time is of the essence, or you are trying to actually do your job. Do not expect to get more hours or more pay unless you are essentially a yes-man/woman. If the boss decides, through some arbitrary reason, that she does not like you--she will make it her mission to see to it that she treats you so unfairly that you want to leave. There is little to no chances of moving upwards in any capacity unless you happen to be a favorite. I could go on, but I'd rather not. So, do yourself a favor--work elsewhere. Look away from this pitfall disguised as an opportunity--because you will find no opportunity here besides the high chance forecast of misery, frustration, and anxiety.
