Pros

Interesting population and some of the best clients. A lot of money seems to go to decent technology, so that’s nice.

Cons

Renfrew was an incredibly toxic place to work. The clinicians, dieticians, and supervisors are burnt out and it shows through the work they do. Some locations are better than others, but most are run like a tyranny. The work environment is ironically a lot like the family system of someone with an eating disorder: rigid, unforgiving, punitive. I was so disappointed because I thought Renfrew was going to be a place that inspired me as a clinician, but it only inspired me to leave agency work for good.

Pros

You have less responsibility as an evening counselor in regards to therapeutic sessions. You get a lot of experience doing crisis work and helping folks avoid crisis. I really enjoyed the role in working with the patients in a less intense role.

Cons

There is no support from higher ups. We were chronically understaffed, to a scary degree. The patient's treatment team did not communicate well with evening staff, so we were left in the dark about a lot regarding patient care.
